News from the TSSS

It is with great regret that, due to the Corona Virus- Covid 19 Pandemic, we have to announce that the TSI 2020 Conference is cancelled.

Many years of hard work by the TSI 2020 committee have gone into organising this event and after looking at a variety of options to postpone or reschedule, we are left very disappointed that cancellation has been our only option.   Our first priority MUST be the health and wellbeing of all our Speakers, Delegates and Guests, and taking into consideration the complex needs we were catering for and the requirements of those with TS having to shield or requiring strict social distancing, we just could not find a suitable alternative.

We are not sure if we will be able to re-schedule the conference at some date in the future given the current situation with worldwide restrictions on social interaction, and that many of our speakers are required for frontline healthcare services.   Hopefully, at a time when we understand what life will be like post Corona Virus - Covid 19 we can do something to allow us all to meet again.

We are pleased however to tell you that despite conference and gala dinner payments being non-refundable, after discussions with Stirling Venues they have agreed as a gesture of goodwill to refund payments already made, for both accommodation and dinner.  These refunds may take a few weeks to process so please be patient.

Details of how this will happen are listed below:

Step 1 - Please be patient and allow up to 4 weeks for your refund to go back to your bank debit or credit card.  Check your statement for the refund.  Please do not contact Stirling Venues before the 1st of June 2020.  If by then you have not received your refund, contact them directly on This email address is being protected from spambots. The TSSS (UK) would like to thank you all for your patience while we sorted everything out, and to extend our grateful thanks to all our Speakers, Sponsors and TSI planning committee for all their support. Our special thanks you to Paula, and the team at Stirling Venues for their help with the preparation for the TSI 2020 Conference, and their support with refunds.

Step 2 - If you have already paid your Conference Registration, or to attend the "Meet the Experts Conference" via Eventbrite, the TSSS (UK) will arrange refunds for this. Look out for an e-mail from Eventbrite or the TSSS (UK) please allow up to 4 weeks, please be patient.

We are all disappointed at the moment, but the wellbeing of our worldwide TS family is a priority, as we are nothing without our health.

Until we can meet again, take care and stay safe.

With kindest regards,
Arlene Smyth
Chair, Turner Syndrome International Committee

THE Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events. The Virgin Money London Marathon alone, which should have taken place on Sunday 26 April, is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.

Turner Syndrome Support Society [UK] TSSS like so many charities across the UK, has been hugely impacted by the cancellation of numerous fundraising events due to COVID-19 such as 10K walks and runs and the London Marathon.

In response, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help our fundraising and save the UK’s charities.

The campaign, The 2.6 Challenge, will launch on Sunday 26 April 2020 – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019. The challenge will last for a week. The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing and remember to stay local.

From Sunday 26 April 2020, TSSS [UK] are asking you to support us and get involved by dreaming up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise.

You can set up your campaigns with either:

Just Giving
or
Virgin Money Giving

We'd love to hear what you're getting up to and share your challenges with everyone else! Once you've set your page up, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. “The 2.6 Challenge can be anything that works for you,” says Nick Rusling, Co-Chair of the Mass Participation Sports Organisers group (MSO) and CEO of Human Race. “You can run or walk 2.6 miles, 2.6km or for 26 minutes. You could do the same in your home or garden, go up and down the stairs 26 times, juggle for 2.6 minutes, do a 26 minute exercise class or get 26 people on a video call and do a 26 minute workout – anything you like. We want people to get active, have fun and raise money to help Save the UK’s Charities by giving money or raising funds for the charity close to your heart.”

“For many of the UK’s charities, the day of the London Marathon is the biggest fundraising day of the year,” said Hugh Brasher, Co-Chair of MSO and Event Director of London Marathon Events. “One of the founding pillars of the London Marathon was ‘to show how the family of mankind can be united’. We hope that The 2.6 Challenge, which starts on the day our 40th Race should have taken place, will embody that spirit and inspire people, families and communities to fundraise for their chosen charity to help Save the UK’s Charities. Right now, our vulnerable members of society need the help of charities more than ever before.”

The mass-participation events organisers behind The 2.6 Challenge are: Human Race, parkrun, The Great Run Company, Run 4 Wales, Grounded Events, London Landmarks, Virgin Sport, Limelight Sports, Threshold Sports, Running High and London Marathon Events. The design and website has been created by Studio Republic and the social media campaign by Live Wire Sport. Both agencies are working pro bono. The campaign is supported by the Charities Aid Foundation, the Institute of Fundraising, the Small Charities Coalition, the Office for Civil Society, Sport England, Let’s Do This, Virgin Money Giving and JustGiving.
